BURLINGTON SUBARU AND BURLINGTON HYUNDAI JOIN HOFFMAN AUTO GROUP
Strength of brands and family ties to Vermont make this ‘the right place to grow’
BURLINGTON, VT - May 1, 2025 - Two well-established Burlington auto dealerships are becoming part of the 104-year-old, family-run Hoffman Auto Group today. This move marks a new chapter for Vermont’s top Subaru dealership and its sister store, Burlington Hyundai.
The new owners, Connecticut-based Hoffman Auto Group, promise a seamless transition and the continuation of many of the names and faces that area customers and residents have come to know.
“We admire Burlington Subaru and Burlington Hyundai’s longstanding reputations for exceptional service and community engagement. Our new team has the same commitment to excellence that our Connecticut dealerships embody each and every day,” said Bradley Hoffman, Chairman of the Hoffman Auto Group. “Vermonters know these dealerships well and know their people, which is why both stores will keep their familiar and trusted names."
“For years, our vision at both Burlington Subaru and Hyundai has been to serve this community with integrity, transparency and heart,” said Steve Kelson, former Managing Partner, Burlington Subaru and Hyundai. “In Hoffman Auto Group, we found a partner that embodies that same approach. I’m confident they will not only uphold that vision, but continue to grow it—while staying grounded in what makes these stores so special to Vermont.”
“This first expansion of our fourth-generation family business beyond Connecticut is a combination of strategic fit and personal connection. We’ve long admired and respected the Subaru and Hyundai brands, and with our family’s deep ties to Vermont, this expansion is the right move,” said Hoffman East President Matthew Hoffman. The 1999 graduate of the University of Vermont added, “Our family grew up coming to the greater Burlington area, and we believe this is the right place to grow our family business.”
Matthew Hoffman, who, along with his brother Jonathan and two cousins Zachary and Joshua, are the fourth generation of Hoffmans to lead their family company, said their goal is to welcome Burlington Subaru and Burlington Hyundai’s people into the Hoffman family and give them the tools, training and support to thrive.
Relationships matter
“In Vermont, just like Connecticut, relationships matter. As we introduce ourselves to Burlington, we will focus on listening first, building trust and making sure the upcoming transition is a win for both customers and employees. We will work with our teams here to support what is already working and elevate it even further to give Vermont drivers the same high-touch service, transparency and trust that Hoffman has delivered for more than 100 years,” said Bradley Hoffman.
It’s the combination of dynamic brands like Subaru and Hyundai, and the people who sell and service them, that are the keys to success, Matthew Hoffman added.
“Our brands are recognized worldwide—but it’s our people and their commitment to providing the best service possible who make us stand out. We believe in investing in our people and making Hoffman a place where team members can build long, rewarding careers,” Matthew Hoffman said.
“We’re thrilled that Eric Sansone is continuing in his leadership role as General Manager of Burlington Hyundai. His deep knowledge of the store and unwavering commitment to his team and customers bring invaluable continuity to this next chapter. Also, adding someone like Vermont’s Gegam Sarkisian to lead Burlington Subaru, with more than two decades of Subaru brand experience, reflects our focus on bringing in leaders who understand and care about the customers they serve,” he added.
“Every day, Team Hoffman delivers on the tradition of values and trust that has made us one of Connecticut’s most respected family-owned businesses—offering and servicing reliable and dynamic brands in a way that delivers on our motto: ‘Driven by Trust,’” Bradley Hoffman concluded. “We see great opportunities for the present and future customers of the expanded Hoffman Auto Group to harness the endless possibilities of our growing family of brands.”
Founded in 1921 by Israel Hoffman, Hoffman Auto Group has grown into one of Connecticut’s most respected family-owned businesses. With locations in East Hartford, West Simsbury, Waterbury and New London, they represent nine brands and operate 10 dealerships and two collision centers. In addition to Subaru and Hyundai, they sell include Audi, BMW, Porsche, Lexus, Ford, Lincoln, Honda, Nissan and Toyota.
